4 Graphic Design and Data Visualization Creators for Beginners

We love graphic design and data visualization at Fireside Insights, but oftentimes, we get some help to quickly and easily create the visuals we need. The following tools simplify the process of designing a professional image and displaying data in a coherent way, and you can use them in your personal and professional lives.

Canva

With pre-made graphics and templates for different types of documents and websites, Canva is the go-to website to create a polished, color-coordinated design. There is also a library containing illustrations, royalty-free photos, icons, and more that you can paste into your design, thereby eliminating any need to hunt for elements online and ensuring that your design looks cohesive. I especially like to browse the templates to find inspiration for my own design.

Visage

Visage is a platform into which you import and transform quantitative data into branded data visualization, reports, presentations, and infographics. With a drag-and-drop interface, easy customization of color schemes, and the ability to quickly revise data and layouts, Visage excels at creating visuals that are consistent across different types of graphics which a business or brand may find useful.

Tableau

Tableau is the most robust software on this list but has a steep learning curve for users. It is a software platform which produces interactive data visualization products focused on business intelligence. Users can create live visual analytics which makes it easier to spot trends and can leverage the mapping functionality to plot latitude and longitude coordinates. Aiming to make information more compelling, Tableau’s dashboard feature allows users to string along information to tell a story.

Datawrapper

Datawrapper’s platform allows users to create simple, correct, and embeddable charts in minutes. Upon importing a CSV dataset into Datawrapper, you can make a chart or a map that can be embedded onto a website (compared to a static image). Among others, you can generate pie charts, line charts, bar charts (horizontal and vertical), and maps. Its advantage is its ease-of-use, so anyone looking to quickly produce charts should first use Datawrapper.
