Six Signs It May Be Time for You to Leave Your Job
As you navigate through your career, it can be tough to break away from the routine of your work life and evaluate your career’s future. This can sometimes lead to stagnation, as many people stay in roles that aren’t a good fit or do not advance them towards their career goals. It may be difficult to discern whether or not this applies to you, so we have compiled six clear-cut signs that it may be time for you to leave your job.
You constantly feel disconnected from your work. This is your life and your career. Since most of our time awake is spent at work, you should be stimulated by the work that you do. This isn’t to say that there won’t be mundane tasks or lackluster duties, but overall, you should be interested in the projects you are on. If this isn’t the case, consider new career opportunities that are geared towards your interests.
Your voice isn’t heard. When you are working hard to contribute your thoughts and ideas, they should be heard and considered, regardless of your title or role. If you are on a team where your contributions are overlooked, it may be time to seek an opportunity that values your voice.
You aren’t learning. Learning shouldn’t stop when formal education ends. If you are taking all of the necessary steps to grow and be involved in your company and still do not feel that you are gaining new skills or insights, it may be time to take on a more challenging role.
Your career goals aren’t being met. Even if you are doing really well in your current role, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s the role for you. Reflect back to the goals you have set for yourself and your career, and make sure that the work you are doing is getting you one step closer to where you want to be. If not, it may be time to ask for more responsibilities in your current role, or switch roles altogether.
You resent going into the office. Sure, there are days you may be tired and prefer to stay in bed. However, you shouldn’t resent going to work everyday. If your overall sentiments towards work are those of dismay, you may need to search for something new that ignites the passion inside of you.
Your compensation is significantly below the industry standard. This may be a sign that you are undervalued within your organization. You want to be a part of a company that values your time and hard work just as much as you do.
