Why You Should Crave Constructive Criticism

Criticism can be tough, and let’s face it, no one really likes to be told they’re not perfect. You have worked long and hard on a project for work or school, and turned it in perfectly. All of your I’s are dotted and all of your T’s are crossed. However, rather than receiving praise for your work, you are met with a load of comments and revisions. This may not be the response you were looking for, but it may be the response you need to make you better at what you do.

Rather than taking criticism as a sign of failure, see it as an opportunity to improve. Take the time to really read through the comments you’ve received with an open mind. Look things over with an objective eye and determine whether or not you agree with the feedback being given. Ask yourself whether you really dedicated enough time to your work, and most importantly, think of ways to push yourself beyond what you have done and even beyond the feedback you’ve received. If you are able to do all of these things, over time you will notice the quality of your work surpassing the expectations of both yourself and your colleagues.

At the end of the day, you didn’t get to where you are by chance. You got there because you worked hard and earned your spot. With this in mind, you should be able to take on any questions, comments, and constructive criticism for what they are: a push towards success. So take the push in stride, and strive towards even greater achievements.
